"Poetry is a search for syllables to shoot at the barriers of the unknown and the unknowable. Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why they go away.”
Poem Recitation is an effective method for students to increase their appreciation for language and cement their mastery of public speaking. Aiming to raise the students’ appreciation of the English language, an Inter House English Poem Recitation Competition was conducted on 28th October 2023 for classes VI to VIII.
The students performed poems by "Alfred Lord Tennyson". The participants set an excellent example of teamwork and enthusiasm while reciting renowned poems like 'The Charge of the Light Brigade', 'Tears, Idle Tears', 'Break, Break, Break', 'Sweet and Low' etc. Our students mesmerized everyone by displaying their critical understanding of the poems. Students presented themselves with conviction and the inferential meaning of the poem was distinctly conveyed to the audience. Meaning, themes, allusion, irony, tone, and other nuances were captured by the performance.
The judges of this event, Ms. Swati Munshi (Principal), Ms. Dimple Jain, and Ms. Chandni Bisht, assimilated the students’ performance on the basis of parameters like introduction of the poem & poet, pronunciation, delivery of poem, choice of poem, use of props.
Cheering, and applause took over as the first, second, and third positions were bagged by Megha (Ashoka House), Sanjana (Tagore House) and Jinisha (Ashoka House) respectively.
